CDS Should Be Looking To Incorporate Technology To Compliment. Boots On The Ground And Not Supplement It

Rawat

Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat told a Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence that ways are being explored for incorporating technology in such a manner so as to supplement boots on the ground.

“We are seeing how we can incorporate technology to see if it can supplement boots on the ground,” General Rawat told Standing Committee.

“While we understand that we have active borders on West and North, so we can not completely do away with our defence forces and requirement of manpower numbers.

But we are seeing as to how we can optimize it through technology,” he stated.
India should avoid aping the Western World. They have acute shortage of military age manpower and even those available are shy of joining the defence forces. Per force the Western Armies look towards technology to supplement their forces.

In India we have no dearth of volunteers for the Armed Forces. Therefore we need to use this wonderful human resources to put enough boots on the ground to defeat any incursions. Technology should be used to provide them best means of defence.

The bunkum of expenditure on pay and pension of the defence forces should be dismissed. In any case in no other department this kind of talk is there. Then why not make railways fully unmanned? The banks should be totally automated. Also what about the police forces with the Home Ministry, which keeps expanding every day but still Armed Forces have to be called for every thing.
First sneeze and Armed Forces are being asked to be ready for tackling CORONA and they will do so also. However where is the National Disaster Reponse Force ?

We can easily reduce this expenditure from defence budget by having an integrated National level plan. As oer plan all those selected for any type of Government service, must first serve in the Forces for 5 to 7 years and then move to their civil departments. This move must be through a fully integrated seamless system.

The pension bill will just vanish.
