Honda Activa 6G will be the most advanced Activa till date
The Honda Activa ended FY2019 with sales of 30,08,334 units, which is 4% lower than what it managed in the previous financial year but the popular automatic scooter did good to retain its segment crown.
With more and more automatic scooters landing in the market, the market dynamics and customer preferences are evolving.
Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) is working on next generation Activa which is aimed at addressing the changing market.
The Honda Activa 6G which is expected to be revealed at Auto Expo 2020 in February. It will be updated not only in design, but also in engine and riding dynamics. The automatic scooter will be reaching showrooms in time for the BS-VI deadline (April 1, 2020).
What will be new with the next gen Activa? Connectivity will be one of the main aspects of the 2020 Honda Activa. The next iteration would pack many new features that may come as a pleasant surprise.
Technical specifications are scarce as of now but the Activa is likely to retain its time proven 110 cc air-cooled HET (Honda Eco Technology) engine and CVT.
The motor is likely to ditch the carburetor in favour of more precise electronic fuel injection in a bid to comply with the BS-VI emission norms.
EFI would not only reduce emissions but would also improve the fuel economy and performance.
The sixth generation automatic scooter is likely to move up the market by offering premium features such as digital instrument console, optional front disc, telescopic forks, smartphone connectivity, alloy wheels, etc.
Standard features will include tubeless tyres, Combi-braking system (now mandatory as per regulations), and so on.
Expect the Honda Activa 6G to have a sizable hike in price. For reference, the existing model is priced between INR 54,632 and 56,497 (Ex-showroom, Delhi).
HMSI is currently going through a rough patch as its sales slid by a massive 46.79% in the month of March 2019.
The overall two wheeler industry has been witnessing a slow down and HMSI is one of the worst affected OEMs.
The company is in the process of overhauling its entire portfolio in a bid to scale back the lost ground.
