Mike Pompeo Should Better Come To India With An Olive Branch and A Big Smile

There was a time less than 325 years back when 25 % of world GDP was with India and another 25 % with China. Rest of the World contributed to make up the balance 50%. The United States of America was just about discovered and the native Americans (Red Indians) still not deprived of their land.

Today the World Order is again changing. Countries such as China and India are progressively dusting off the stagnation of the colonial occupation and asserting themselves to occupy their rightful place in the world hierarchy ….Economic, Political and military.

Thus there is a natural major shift in the International power balance and the Western Era is drawing to a close. Therefore West in general and USA in particular will be prone to display a certain amount of withdrawal symptoms which becomes inevitable.

Americans are already talking about a fight with a totally different civilisation and therefore developing a strategy for China again totally different from that for taking on their own kind the Russians. ‘This is a fight with a really different civilisation and a different ideology and the United States hasn’t had that before.

The Soviet Union and that competition, in a way it was a fight within the Western family,’ said Skinner a Harvard educated Foreign Affairs Specialist, noting Karl Marx’s indebtedness to Western political ideas. ‘It’s the first time that we will have a great power competitor that is not Caucasian,’ he said.

However in contrast to the more visible hardline stance already being taken against China, the American System is not yet demonstrating the same kind of mistrust or animosity towards India. They think that the land of Gandhi can still be shepherded towards their Camp.

That India will meekly join the self styled liberal international order that came into being in the post-World War 2 era. It has a set of rules and institutions which help legitimize the American dominance of the international order.

However Indians are no camp followers and the American attempt to create a Quad against China with help of India has flopped miserably. On top of that USA is trying to virtually threaten India over its decision to procure five squadrons of Russian-made S-400 air defense systems. In addition is the looming trade war where tit for tat has already commenced. It may next spill over to import of oil from wherever India feels like.

As per the induction of the new air defence systems ‘effectively could limit India’s ability to increase our own interoperability’, and the US has ‘serious concerns’ about the long-term strategic implications of the purchase for the bilateral ties between the US and India. Well India has politely ignored such tantrums but at the same time gone ahead to attend the SCO summit to improve its ties with both Russia and China thus displaying its Strategic Will.

The major mistake the US makes includes semantics too like issuing statements like “ may consider India’s inclusion on the US’s International Traffic in Arms Regulations, which would put India on par with America’s NATO allies for the export of high-level military technologies including ballistic missiles, drones, spacecraft systems, nuclear weapons simulation tools, and directed energy weapons.“

India can be at par only with USA and not its allies whoever they may be and Russia will always remain a friend and China a neighbour.
