Delhi University’s Hindu College honours PM Harini Amarasuriya with new research lab

In recognition of Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya’s academic and public achievements, Hindu College, University of Delhi, has inaugurated a new research facility named the “Harini Amarasuriya Social & Ethnographic Research Lab.”
Prime Minister Amarasuriya, who earned her bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Hindu College, visited her alma mater during her ongoing official visit to India. She was warmly welcomed by the college administration, faculty members, and students.
During the visit, Dr. Amarasuriya revisited the classrooms where she once studied and reflected on how her education at Hindu College shaped her academic journey and lifelong dedication to social justice, equality, and education reform.
Addressing students, she emphasized the importance of curiosity, empathy, and critical thinking, saying, “Education is not merely about securing individual futures, but about equipping ourselves to transform the futures of others.” She also underscored the need for compassion, democracy, and active citizenship to build inclusive and equitable societies.
Following her visit to Hindu College, the Prime Minister visited NITI Aayog, India’s premier policy think tank, where discussions focused on education reform, innovation, and governance.
As Sri Lanka advances its own education reform agenda, Dr. Amarasuriya’s meeting at NITI Aayog centered on India’s transformation experience including initiatives such as the Atal Innovation Mission and the country’s approach to fostering research, creativity, and digital learning.
