Jaishankar discusses global, regional issues with his Iranian counterpart
Amid the crisis in Iran, the Foreign Minister of Iran has chosen the most important country in the region to visit and talk about the crisis. Time is coming when India will start playing its destined role in Asia initially and then on the world stage.
India and Iran on Thursday exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest, including the recent developments in the West Asian region and the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (Iran nuclear deal), the government of India said in a statement.
In a meeting with his counterpart Javad Zarif, external affairs minister S Jaishankar reiterated Indian interests in the region and support for efforts to maintain peace, security and stability in the region.
In the meeting, Zarif briefed Jaishankar about the overall situation in Persian Gulf and Tehran’s position on the recent killing of its chief commander Qasem Soleimani in a US strike.
