Padmavati’ row: After Gujarat and MP, CM Nitish Kumar bans the film in Bihar
Controversies surrounding Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Padmavati’ are far from getting over. After the film got banned in two states of Indian, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar banned the film in Bihar too.
The CM reportedly issued a statement stating that the film will not be released in Bihar until the concerned parties issue an adequate clarification. According to reports, protests were being staged outside Bihar legislative assembly, with several politicians of the BJP protesting against Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s controversial film.
This also comes after SC earlier today said that the final authority to make any decisions on the film lies with the CBFC. It also reprimanded the state Government against giving statements and passing comments on films which haven’t been cleared by CBFC.
The Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh starrer film was initially supposed to be released on December 1 but following the protest, it has been pushed to oblivion
On November 22, Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani declared his government would not allow the release of the film in the poll-bound state.
Earlier, Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan held the film had “distorted facts” about Rajput queen Padmavati and would not be allowed to be released in his state, even if it gets a censor board certification.
His Uttar Pradesh counterpart Yogi Adityanath had held the movie director responsible for hurting the sentiments of the Rajput community, while Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje had sought edits in the film to remove “objectionable sequences”.
