Somalia rejects idea of resettling Gazans on its territory

According to the source, the Somali government will issue a statement on this topic as soon as the United States officially announces its plans
Somalia’s authorities reject the idea of taking in Gaza residents, the UK-based The New Arab media outlet said, citing sources in the Somali foreign ministry.
An unnamed diplomat refused to comment on media reports about the potential resettling of displaced Gazans in Somalia, saying that these claims were based on “leaks and rumours.” Somalia will not be part of “displacement policies planned by Washington against Palestinians,” he was quoted as saying.
According to the source, the Somali government will issue a statement on this topic as soon as the United States officially announces its plans.
US President Donald Trump said on January 25 that he thinks it possible to resettle around 1.5 million Gaza Strip residents, who lost their homes due to Israel’s current operation, in other Arab countries.
On the following day, the idea came under criticism from Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi. On January 31, Trump expressed confidence that Egypt and Jordan would take in Palestinians.
Later, the Israeli N12 television channel reported that the US administration was looking at resettling Gazans to the Somali states of Somaliland and Puntland, and to Morocco.
