Trump gone “Off Rockers” over India buying oil from Russia

It seems either Trump has become a compulsive liar or has lost his mental balance. On Wednesday Donald Trump said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has “assured” him that India will no longer buy oil from Russia.

During an event at the White House, Trump said, “That’s a big stop. Now I got to get China to do the same thing.” For months, Trump had urged China and India to stop purchasing Russia’s oil, threatening higher tariffs on imports from the two countries if they did not cooperate.

Trump claimed that Modi made the assurance on Wednesday, adding that for India to halt its buying of Russian oil will entail “a little bit of process,” but such work will begin “soon.”

In an address at the U.N. General Assembly last month, Trump accused China and India of being “primary funders” of Russia’s war on Ukraine that has dragged on since 2022.

Trump thinks that India is going to ditch its most reliable friend Russia over a country which in 1971 tried to threaten it directly with a nuclear armed naval flotilla. Since 1950’s USA has also been arming Pakistan to be used against India.

Trump’s futile 50 percent tariff on Indian imports took effect in August making the world’s most populous country subject to the highest U.S. trade levy, a rate also imposed on Brazil.

However it has had no visible effect on India, because of its vast middle class. Also trade with other countries including Russia have surged ahead. whereas Poor American consumers are paying a heavy price.

In parallel, the United States has been calling on members of the Group of Seven to intensify pressure on Russia and contribute to cutting off the revenues funding its war against Ukraine.
