US has been violating UN resolution on Iran since withdrawing from JCPOA in 2018

According to the Russian diplomat Vasily Nebenzya, Western delegations are again demonstrating “blatant hypocrisy and double standards

The United States has been violating UN Security Council resolution 2231 on Iran for four years after it withdrew from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the Iranian nuclear program, Russian Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said on Wednesday.

According to the Russian diplomat, Western delegations are again demonstrating “blatant hypocrisy and double standards.” “They are positioning themselves as main advocates of the United Nations Charter, inserting calls for supporting UN Charter principles in various non-sectoral General Assembly resolutions, accusing other UN members of its violation,” he noted.

“But when it is in their interests, the same Security Council members who vehemently called for defending the UN Charter here literally two weeks ago, today are openly violating it and are pushing the United Nations Secretariat to do the same,” Nebenzya said. “Ans as for the United States, which has been violating resolution 2231 for four years since it withdrew unilaterally from the JCPOA in 2018, it is an unprecedented level of disregard of the Charter and Security Council resolutions. Regrettably, the Secretariat is poorly resisting such flagrant political pressure.”
