As per rumour Chinese Nuclear submarine suffers serious accident, No survivors

A Chinese Navy (PLAN) nuclear powered Type-093 Shang Class boat, has suffered a serious accident in the vicinity of the Taiwan Strait. A renowned and reputed expert on surface and sub-surface vessels reported on his Twitter (X) handle.

He twitted

“This is currently “unconfirmed”, treat with great caution. Been hearing it for a few hours.Should add, one thing which makes me doubt some of the accounts is that they have too much information, like crew dying, type of boat etc. However, that doesn’t invalidate the underlying story. But waiting for more info, ideally credible sources (I may have missed some) he noted further. Further reports claim all crew died.

However no official announcement has been made yet by China.

There is no evidence to corroborate a rumour that a Chinese submarine has crashed in the Taiwan Strait, the Ministry of National Defence (MND) said on Tuesday.

In recent days, a rumour has been circulating online that a Type 093 (Shang class) Chinese People’s Liberation Army nuclear-powered attack submarine crashed in the Taiwan Strait, killing everyone aboard.

Addressing a regular news conference in Taipei, MND spokesman Sun Li-fang said that the nation’s joint intelligence and surveillance apparatus has not detected any evidence of a submarine crash.

The rumor has thus far only circulated on social media, with no official sources confirming the supposed incident thus far, he added, declining to comment further.

China’s navy currently has six Shang-class submarines in service. In the early 2000s, Chinese sources reported that the Type 093’s noise level was on par with the American improved Los Angeles class submarines, and with Russian Akula class.

In 2009, USN ONI listed the Type 093 as being noisier than Victor III class which entered service in 1979. Two subs entered service were classified as Type 093A or Shang I.

Then four more with Modified design, possibly with greater length and a hump behind the sail got built. Under Shang II or Type 093B. These submarines have a crew of 100.

Earlier in June 2023, the United States military released a video on Monday of what it called an “unsafe” Chinese manoeuvre in the Taiwan Strait on the weekend, in which a Chinese navy ship cut sharply across the path of an American destroyer, forcing the U.S. vessel to slow to avoid a collision.

The incident occurred Saturday as the American destroyer USS Chung-Hoon and Canadian frigate HMCS Montreal were conducting a so-called “freedom of navigation” transit of the strait between Taiwan and mainland China.

China claims the democratic self-governing island of Taiwan as part of its own territory, and maintains the strait is part of its exclusive economic zone, while the U.S. and its allies regularly sail through and fly over the passage to emphasize their contention that the waters are international.
