Bahrain, Russia’s reliable partner in Arab world, appreciates Russia’s role

Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani said Manama “appreciates the dense and accommodating nature of relations” with Moscow

Manama notes Moscow’s significant role in strengthening international security, Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani said on Thursday at talks with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov.

The Bahraini foreign minister said Manama “appreciates the dense and accommodating nature of relations” with Moscow.

“We note Russia’s significant role in strengthening international peace and security,” he continued.

The Bahraini minister also hoped to discuss with his Russian counterpart a number of security issues in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa. “And to focus special attention on the ongoing events in Ukraine,” he added, “I look forward to productive talks, which I hope will further promote the whole complex of our relations”.

Moscow sees Manama as a reliable partner of Russia in the Arab world, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Thursday, in the opening remarks at talks with Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Alzayani.

“First of all, I want to congratulate you on the holy month of Ramadan, wish you health, happiness and all the best. We have a very good relationship, we see Bahrain as our reliable partner in the Arab world,” Lavrov said.

“President Vladimir Putin and His Majesty King Hamad [bin Isa Al Khalifa] of Bahrain stay in constant touch. Following their several contacts, our relations develop in accordance with the achieved agreements, they embrace trade-economic and investment sectors, along with humanitarian cooperation and our coordination on the international arena,” the top diplomat went on to say.

In addition to the above issues, Lavrov said that he wanted to discuss regional affairs. “The assessments from our friends of what is happening in the region of the Middle East and North Africa are very important for us,” he noted.
