Board exams likely twice a year from 2025-26 : Sources

The CBSE board exams may be held twice a year from the 2025-26 academic session, as reported by sources cited by the PTI news agency.

The CBSE board exams may be held twice a year from the 2025-26 academic session, as reported by sources cited by the PTI news agency.

The Ministry of Education has hinted at CBSE contemplating biannual board exams from academic session 2025-26, aiming to reduce stress and provide more opportunities for students, state sources as per PTI. There are no immediate plans for a semester system, however.

The sources also noted that the ministry has asked the board to consult school principals next month, seeking inputs on the biannual CBSE board exams.

On August 23, 2023, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced that the new curriculum framework (NCF), in accordance with National Education Policy 2020, was ready

The document, accessed by PTI, suggested various changes in the CBSE curriculum, including the recommendation for two board exams in a year.

“Board exams will be offered at least twice a year to ensure students have enough time and opportunity to perform well. Students can then appear for a board exam in subjects they have completed and feel ready for. They will also be allowed to retain the best score,” it stated.

Additionally, on February 24, 2024, Pradhan stated that from the academic year 2025-26, students would get the opportunity to appear for board exams twice a year.
