Canada’s politics encourages separatism, extremism against India

Minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar faulted the condition of Canada’s politics in which extremist elements have got themselves embedded, as the major factor behind Canada’s recent behaviour towards India.

The Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau in a “fit of Superiority Complex” and arrogance made an allegation against India in public. Before that, Prime Ministers of both the Countries had met and Trudeau had cribbed about certain vague things. He was curtly given the Indian position. Also then and there he was told that if there was anything on his mind that’s worrying him, any information he got, he must bring out forthwith without playing games.

He was also encouraged, to say at least say something, if not everything so that Indian agencies could investigate and get to the bottom of the things.

However both Trudeau and his Canadian Government chose to ignore India’s request for sharing information about any concerns they may have had, and instead made allegations in public against India over the killing of Canadian terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in June 2023, said External Affairs Minister Shri S Jaishankar.

Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had tried his level best or planned best to start up a massive diplomatic row between the two countries over the murder of a Proclaimed terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. This terrorist was a Canadian citizen and was killed on Canadian soil. Mr Trudeau had the tremity to allege that this Canadian terrorist was shot dead by “Indian government agents” outside a gurdwara in Surrey city.

Govt of India categorically rubbished such allegation. However it is pertinent to ask Trudeau that even if it was true then till now why he and his Government had not taken steps to eradicate terrorist and anti India organizations from his Canadian soil ? India is not going to buy the theory of Freedom of Action / Expression any more. In fact even Biden and his Administration needs to be encouraged to take action against American terrorist Pannun.

Mr Jaishankar correctly brought out that the fault was the condition of Canada’s politics in which extremist elements have got themselves embedded, as the major factor behind Canada’s recent behaviour towards India.

“Canada, for some years, has been giving space to extremists and terrorists in their politics. I believe this is a weakness in their politics. A lot of problems have happened there because of this. It should not have happened,” Mr Jaishankar said.

“They did not share anything, but made allegations in public. In comparison, see the example of the US. The US told us that they have some information about criminals, and they will give us some information to look into from our side, and we will compare the information, investigate the matter,” the Eternal Affairs Minister said.

“Separatism, extremism, and violence have been given space in Canada’s politics. There is no such problem in the US. Yes, they have other issues, but there is a difference between Canada and the US in their politics, their approach, and how they handle bilateral relationships,” Mr Jaishankar said, referring to the row over an alleged plot to murder US-based American terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun.
