First Squadron Of S-400 Air Defence System Deployed in Western Theatre

After its deployment, the IAF would focus on the Eastern front and provide resources for training personnel in the country

In a major boost to India’s capability to defend its airspace in the Western Theatre, the first Squadron of S400 missile defence system has been deployed. With surveillance radius of 600 km, the system thus covers a diameter of 1200km, covering aerial threats from both China and Pakistan.

“The first squadron is being deployed in the Punjab sector. The batteries of the first squadron would be capable of taking care of aerial threats from both Pakistan and China,” said Indian government sources told.

The equipment of the missile systems have come via both air and sea routes and everything would be quickly deployed in the designated locations.

The first squadron deliveries of Russia’s powerful S-400 air defence missile system are expected to be completed by the end of this year, with the unit being operationalised in the next few weeks.

The deployment of Second Squadron is most likely to be on the Eastern front. A certain amount of equipment will also provide resources for training personnel in the country. Several Indian Air Force officers and personnel have already trained on the system in Russia.

This surface-to-air missile system will then slowly be integrated with our own existing air defence network. This would give the IAF an edge as they would be able to detect incoming rouge missiles and aircrafts and even drones at 600km and track them. The enemy aircraft and cruise missiles etc can be destroyed from a 400 km distance.

The S-400 Triumf air defence system is equipped with four different missiles which can engage enemy aircraft, ballistic missiles, and AWACS planes at 400 km, 250 km, the medium-range 120 km and the short-range 40 km.

Finally all Indian are now asking Uncle Sam ….what about your CAATSA ?
