Shehla Rashid is known for their hatred towards India and their love towards separatists and she also the part of Kanahiya kumar and Umar Khalid. This time she raised the same issue and in the same tone.

Shehla Rashid Shora is an M.Phil student attending the Jawaharlal Nehru University and vice-president of the students union (JNUSU) from 2015-16. She is a member of the All India Students Association (AISA). Shora came into the limelight after the JNU student union president Kanhaiya Kumar was arrested on charges of sedition over the JNU sedition controversy in February 2016, leading the student agitation calling for the release of Kumar, Umar Khalid and others.

She Said:

But People insulted and trashed her completely:

Earlier, The Jawaharlal Nehru University proctor has opened an inquiry against former JNUSU vice-president Shehla Rashid and told her to appear before him at his office on December 19.

The proctor had received a complaint on November 23 about Rashid levelling allegations against the university on Twitter. Rashid had claimed that certain YouTube videos had been rendered inaccessible while using campus Wi-Fi on November 11-12.

Rashid has been accused of rumour-mongering and told to appear with proof to back her claims. She said this was the first time that social media activity was considered a punishable offence.

She told TOI that there was ample proof that there was “censorship” as certain videos couldn’t be accessed by typing in certain key phrases.

“YouTube allows network administrators of educational institutions to filter keywords. The JNU admin was misusing this feature and filtering keywords related to opposition leaders and some news portals.” According to YouTube, the ‘restricted mode’ is “an optional setting that has been available since 2010, and is used by a small subset of users, such as libraries, schools, and public institutions, who choose to have a more limited viewing experience on YouTube.”

Questioning the administration’s motives, Rashid asked if “they are going to sit on Twitter and read whatever the students tweet”. “I don’t know if social media activities fall under the proctor office’s power. It has jurisdiction over what happens on campus.

On the one hand, they let off those who assaulted Najeeb but on the other, they have time to set up an inquiry over something written on social media,” Rashid said.

JNUSU also condemned the move. In a statement, it said this was an act of punishing dissenters and whistleblowers by the VC through the office of proctor.

“JNUSU appeals to the student community to stand tall against this curbing of both intellectual and social life and demands JNU administration to take back the notice and stop harassing students and activists and roll back the anti-student polices of seat cut and delinking of MPhil, PhD,” the statement read.
