Army officer shoots self at Siachen glacier in Leh general area
An Army Colonel was seriously injured after he reportedly shot himself at the Siachen glacier in Leh general area in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday.
The officer reportedly belonged to 6 Mahar regiment of the Indian Army. He shot himself with a service rifle near Paratpur of Nubra subdivision.
An Army official confirmed the development and said that the incident took place on Friday morning. According to reports, the officer was shifted to an Army hospital by Quick Response Team (QRT) personnel.
“An officer deployed in the Pratap pur Sector suffered gunshot wound at around 1050 h today. He was immediately evacuated to the nearby Military hospital and is presently under treatment. Details of the incident are being ascertained,” the Northern Command of the Indian Army said in a statement.
While various reports identified the officer, his name has been withheld and further confirmation from the Army is awaited.
