Immortalized as Ravana from Ramanand Sagar’s legendary mythological series ‘Ramayan’, actor Arvind Trivedi has passed away in Mumbai on Tuesday night. He was 82.

When News Agency contacted his nephew, Kaustubh Trivedi, he confirmed the unfortunate news and said, “He was not keeping well for quite some time, but today he suffered a heart attack and that led to multi organ failure.”

The last rites of the actor will take place at Dahanukarwadi crematorium, Kandivali West, in Mumbai on Wednesday morning.

Apart from playing one of the most iconic characters on Indian television, Ravan in Ramanand Sagar’s ‘Ramayan’, Trivedi had also played a key role in the cult TV show ‘Vikram Aur Betaal’.

Not just that, Trivedi had a prolific career spanning more than three decades in Gujarati cinema. The film ‘Desh Re Joya Dada Pardesh Joya’ remains one of the most popular Gujarati films of all time. Trivedi’s brother Upendra Trivedi was also a celebrated name in Gujarati cinema.

Filmmaker K Amar who also confirmed the news to News Agency had worked with Trivedi on a film. He said, “He was a very good human being and had a great sense of humour. He acted in Gujarati film ‘Maatema Bija Vagdana Vaa’, which was probably one of his last films.’

He had also been a Member of Parliament from 1991 to 1996. For a brief time between 2002 and 2003, he had also served as an acting chairman for the Central Board for Film Certification (CBFC).
